Trapped boy rescued in playground drama

FIREFIGHTERS went to the rescue of an 11-year-old boy who got his finger stuck in a steel barrier.

A crew from Peterlee Fire Station was called to the playground near the Hearts of Oak pub, in Oakerside Drive, Peterlee, where the boy’s finger had become trapped in a hole in the barrier.

Firefighters tried to put some lubrication around the youngster’s finger, but when it would not budge, they had to cut the end of the 8ins-diameter steel pole off with a drill saw.

The boy’s mother called the fire service at 6.30pm yesterday and firefighters spent half an hour freeing the boy during the incident, in Oakerside Drive.
