So forget ice creams, walks along the beach and fish and chips (maybe). The coming days look like they're all going to be about indoor pastimes.

Take a look at our list of things to do on a chilly bank holiday weekend.

1. Do a jigsaw

How many years has it been since you and the family huddled down over a jigsaw? Pluck your favourite one from the loft and call dibs on the corner pieces!

2. Hit the cinema

What better activity is there for a cold day? Get the fizzy drinks, popcorn and pick & mix in and reserve your seats for the flick of your choice.

3. Have a hot chocolate

We know it should probably be a Pimm's at this time of year, but really, who's going to turn down a hot chocolate? Head out to your favourite cafe for the decadent, sweet treat - and treat yourself to a cake while you're at it.

4. Visit a museum

An afternoon of culture can be just the ticket for a bank holiday! Don't forget to visit the gift shop at the end.

5. Board game tournament!

Monopoly! Cluedo! Game of Life! Pick your team and scope out your property.

6. Get your mates round for a picky tea

While you were probably expecting a barbecue (it is May, after all) a picky tea is not to be sniffed at! Get some skewers for the oven, some crisps and dip and something sweet for afters. Washed down with an alcoholic tipple of your choice ...

7. Take the dog for a brisk walk

Come rain or shine, the pooches have to go for a walk. So pull your winter warmers out from the back of the cupboard and keep the pace moving. You can always stop off at your favourite dog-friendly boozer on the way home for a swift half.

8. Enjoy a roast dinner

With all the trimmings. The end.

9. Stay in your pyjamas all day and binge-watch a box set

Winter may have been over (briefly) but now that the cold is back there's no better excuse to snuggle up with Game Of Thrones, or your go-to series of the moment. Do a quick supermarket run for some snacks, and build a blanket fort to last you the weekend.
