HARTLEPOOL United paid tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster ahead of Saturday’s game with Sheffield Wednesday.

Friday marked the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy, which saw 96 Liverpool fans lose their lives as they watched their team play Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup semi-final.

On Saturday, Pools were at the South Yorkshire stadium for a League One clash with The Owls, and manager Mick Wadsworth, Sheffield-born club skipper Ritchie Humphreys and team captain Sam Collins paid their respects by laying a wreath at the Hillsborough memorial when the team coach arrived at the ground.

Fans from both clubs also left touching floral tributes at the Leppings Lane end of the stadium where the tragedy happened,
