Two airlifted to hospital after A19 smash

TWO people have been airlifted to hospital after a crash on the A19.

Great North Air Ambulance crews were called to the busy northbound carriageway, near Seaton, Seaham, just after 5pm tonight.

One man was flown to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital with head and chest injuries. His condition was described as “critical”.

A woman was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary. Her condition is described as “serious”.

The road was closed between the Seaton slip road and the A690.
