TWO people were rushed to hospital after a crash in which a car overturned.

A woman in her mid-40s was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, and a man, aged around 40, was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, after an accident in The Causeway, outside Billingham Forum.

The woman had to be cut free from a Renault Scenic car but the man, whose Range Rover had flipped onto its roof, had managed to free himself.

The woman suffered spinal, neck and lower back injuries in the incident while the man was taken to the Stockton-based hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed for around an hour while crews in three appliances, from Stockton Fire Station, dealt with the incident, which happened around 1.40pm on Saturday.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said a rapid response vehicle and two ambulances attended the crash.
