THIS is the dramatic moment a man was airlifted to hospital after being slashed in a violent street attack.

The man, in his 40s, was rushed to hospital following the incident in Monkton Road, Hartlepool at about 4.15pm on Saturday, with leg injuries.

The incident involved more than a dozen people and the injured man is thought to have been struck with what residents say was a machete-type blade.

Residents told the Mail that police were soon at the scene and cordoned off the street.

One said that two cars had pulled up at the junction of Macrae Road and Monkton Road shortly before the incident started.

Police, who confirmed that an incident had taken place which resulted in a man being rushed to hospital had taken place but have yet to confirm what weapons were involved in the incident or give any details about the injured man.
