FITNESS enthusiasts can get the tips and advice of an international ultra-distance runner when she visits town next month.

Sharon Gayter has represented Great Britain more than 25 times since 1994, taking part in various gruelling endurance challenges.

Seven marathons in seven days, 24 hours of running around an indoor track and a 1,000 mile challenge which took nearly six weeks to complete are just some of the extreme challenges Sharon has overcome in her running career.

She also recently set the world record for the distance covered as she ran for seven days on a treadmill at Teesside University.

Sharon, 48, is now planning to share some of her tales and experience with people in Hartlepool when she gives an inspirational talk at Hartlepool College of Further Education.

The event, which has been organised by Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers, will be held in a lecture theatre on Wednesday, July 11, from 6.30pm.

Lisa-Marie Dawkins, a member of the Burn Road Harriers who has helped to organise the event, is looking forward to welcoming Sharon to town.

She said: “It’s a special occasion and a fantastic opportunity.

“It’s not every day you get the opportunity to chat with an international athlete.

“So many people in Hartlepool are making an effort to improve their fitness and this is a chance for them to hear from someone who is the very best at what she does.”

It isn’t just Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers members who are invited along to the event.

Lisa-Marie added: “Anybody who is interested in setting themselves goals in fitness will find the talk very useful.

“Sharon can contribute to those goals.

“She has gone from starting out and setting herself goals to absolutely smashing them.

“Some of the events she has taken part in and the records she has set are absolutely outstanding, to be able to hear about those experiences will be great.”

Anybody who wants to register a place at the event should email Lisa-Marie.Dawkins@astrazeneca.com or call Lisa-Marie on 07789286624.
