A WINDOW of a van was smashed with an axe before a petrol can was thrown inside and set alight.
The white LDV Maxus van was torched in Sandringham Road, Hartlepool, at around 11.30pm yesterday.
Police are now appealing to anyone with any information to come forward and are keen to speak to two men who were seen in the area at the time.
One is described as being tall and was wearing a grey hoodie. The other was wearing dark clothing.
Acting Sergeant Iain Clark, of Hartlepool Police, said: “It would appear that a window has been smashed with an axe and a jerrycan full of petrol has been thrown in the van and then set alight.
“We have since retrieved an axe and a jerrycan.”
Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call PC Simon Gee, of Hartlepool Police on the non-emergency 101 number.
