CALLOUS vandals targeted a young mum’s car by pouring paint stripper over the roof and bonnet.
Police are investigating after Carly Robertson’s Fiat Punto was covered with the chemical as her family slept.
Her partner discovered the damage, estimated to cost between £1,000 and £1,300, as he left for work around 6.45am on Monday morning.
The panels on the silver car, which is five years old, have also been scratched and a small amount of paintstripper went on Carly’s partner’s car bonnet, causing £150 of damage.
Carly, 24, who is mum to three-year-old Alesha Foster, said: “I was shocked and angry when we found out.
“It’s totally come out of the blue.
“I’ve got a little girl as well and it makes you think what else could they do?
“I don’t understand who could do it.
“It’s usually a quiet area, but it is a main street.”
Carly, who needs the car to get around as she is hoping to start up her own mobile hairdressing business, said she is having to go through her insurance company to be able to afford repairs.
The incident took place overnight between Sunday and Monday in Dunelm Road, Thornley.
PC Paul Gooden, of Peterlee Police, said: “This has been an unwarranted attack on a young mother’s car in a quiet area of Thornley.
“We are seeking information from any members of the public who knows who may have committed this crime.”
