Victim needs hospital treatment after Elwick Village hammer attack

A man was attacked with a hammer after he disturbed two intruders breaking into a shed in Elwick Village.

Police are appealing for information after the assault, which happened at 11.10pm on Monday yesterday in Manor Close.

The victim disturbed the two male intruders, one of whom then tried to attack him. The second suspect then grabbed a hammer from the shed and began attacking the victim, before the two suspects made off from the scene.

The 49-year-old victim later attended the University Hospital of North Tees with facial and hand injuries, where he was treated and released. He will have to receive further medical treatment at a later date.

The first suspect is described as a white male, around 5 ft 9” tall, of slim build and clean shaven. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with the hood up and he spoke in another language. The second suspect is described as around 6 ft 2” tall, of skinny build and he was also wearing dark clothing.
