THE imaginative Castle Eden residents have stepped up their game as they hope to retain their village scarecrow competition crown.
Twenty-five of the weird and wonderful straw creations have popped up around the village - all with a Midsummer Madness theme.
And the residents who dedicated hours to making them are hoping Castle Eden will once again beat Elwick in the village competition when the winners are announced tomorrow.
Amanda Moon, 51, who lives in the village and is secretary of the Action Castle Eden group, said: “Once again we have a fantastic array of scarecrows around the village.
“I’m confident our scarecrows will impress the judges and we will retain our title. The Midsummer Madness theme was quite challenging, but some of the scarecrows really are excellent.”
The scarecrows in Elwick featured in the Mail earlier this week. Photographs of the winning scarecrows and the winning village will appear in Monday’s Mail.
