LIVELY celebrations took place to mark Chinese New Year at a successful event.
Hartlepool Chinese Association held the event at The Grand Hotel, in Hartlepool yesterday.
Guests enjoyed a variety of traditional Chinese food and entertainment to celebrate the year of the snake, including singing and dancing.
People from all backgrounds attended the festivities including civic dignitaries Hartlepool MP Iain Wright and Barry Coppinger, Cleveland Crime and Police Commissioner.
Sandra Chow, chairperson of Hartlepool Chinese Association, said: “It went very well and was very successful.
“We had more people attend than last year. We had entertainment, singing, dancing, including a lion dance, and a Chinese buffet and tai chi.”
Chinese New Year started on Sunday, February 10 and lasts for 15 days.
It is celebrated by the Chinese to welcome “longevity, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negative chi from the past”.
