YOUNGSTERS at a village primary school were delighted to show off their singing and dancing to celebrate the grand opening of their new dining hall.
Children from Greatham Primary School, in Greatham Village, performed in front of parents and staff to rapturous applause. Their efforts were all for the opening of the new dining hall which has been built onto the side of the school.
Previously the children ate meals, carried out PE lessons and worship assemblies all in the old hall inside the school.
But due to the efforts and vision of the former headteacher Julie Tyerman who wanted to have a hall solely for eating, building work on the new dining hall started in Easter and was completed just last week.
The current head teacher Nicola Dunn said: “The new dining hall had always been Mrs Tyerman’s plan and her long-term vision. Basically we wanted to enhance the dining experience for the children and also to have a separate hall for PE and collective worship.”
She added: “To celebrate we had a grand opening with the cutting of the ribbon to declare the hall officially open. The children entertained the parents, who had come for a look around, with singing and dancing. Everybody had a really good time and it was well-attended by parents.”
