A NEW mum and dad are royally proud to announce the birth of their baby daughter on the same day as the future King.
Hartlepool woman Jessica McEvoy safely delivered gorgeous little Ava Grace Barrett at the University Hospital of Hartlepool around seven hours before the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her baby boy.
Little Ava made her entrance into the world at 9.31am yesterday, weighing in at 6lb 12oz, while Kate and William’s new son arrived at 4.24pm, tipping the scales at 8lb 6oz.
Today Jessica, 24, and her partner of five years, Dean, Barrett, 25, a telecommunications engineer, said they were overwhelmed that their bundle of joy shares the same birthday as the third in line to the throne.
Jessica, a customer advisor, from the West View area of Hartlepool, said: “It’s just mad isn’t it!
“The midwives told me about Kate being taken in to hospital when I was in labour and to be honest I didn’t really think about it that much then.
“I’ll definitely be telling Ava about it when she’s older though.”
And when asked what she thought about giving birth on the same day as the Duchess, she said: “They had their baby on the same day as us! Ours came first.
“I’m sure they’re as happy as we are. We’re over the moon.”
Baby Ava was not actually due for another two weeks, until August 4, so it was a big shock to Jessica when her waters broke while in bed early yesterday morning.
She then started to get contractions and was taken into hospital at 5am. Kate, 31, is said to have arrived at St Mary’s Hospital, in Paddington, London, shortly after 6am.
Jessica added: “It was totally unexpected when my waters broke yesterday morning. I started getting contractions and within a few hours she was here.
“I had a water birth and it was nothing like what I thought it was going to be like.
“Because Ava wasn’t due until August I never thought for a minute she’d be born on the same day as the royal baby.”
