MORE than 1,000 runners took part in Hartlepool’s first ever Miles For Men event to help fight cancer.
Men and children of all ages whose lives have been touched by the disease walked, ran or jogged the three-mile route from Maritime Avenue, in Hartlepool, to Seaton Carew Cricket Club.

They were enthusiastically cheered on by their wives, family and passers-by who turned out to support them.
Some taking part were even in the middle of their own battles with cancer.
The event was the brainchild of Hartlepool dad-of-three Michael Day in memory of his dad Michael Senior, who died after a battle with throat cancer.
It was hailed a huge success and is expected to have raised thousands to help fight the disease, with the money going to support Cancer Research UK.
Michael said: “It’s been absolutely amazing. I never thought it would be like this.
“The support we have had from Hartlepool is crazy and I would like to thank everyone.”
