VIDEO: Trip trap through Hartlepool

A FLEET of around 60 horse and trap owners trotted through Hartlepool while visiting some of the town’s pubs along the way.

Dozens of drivers and passers by stopped to stare at the remarkable procession which started at The Hourglass pub, in Eaglesfield Road, in the Owton Manor area at around 1pm.

The crowd enjoyed drinks and socialising before heading off through the town towards the Headland area where they stopped off for more refreshments.

From there they moved on to The Princess Helena pub, in Whitby Street, off Church Street, and then back to The Hour Glass to finish the social event.

Hartlepool Police were informed of the get-together so a team of officers maintained a low-key presence at locations throughout the town.

And by the end of Sunday afternoon police recorded no incidents of trouble or disturbances from the horse and trap owners and passengers.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “The event was a gathering of horse and trap owners and they congregated first at The Hour Glass pub from about 1pm on Sunday.

“They informed us that they were going to ride the traps to the Headland.

“There were no issues and no crimes were committed.”
