Residents at the care home, in West View Road, were said to be “excited” by the newest addition of the Royal Family and had followed news coverage closely on Monday when the Duchess of Cambridge went into labour.

Theresa Lax, personal activities leader at the care home, said: “A lot of our residents love the Royal Family and were so pleased by the news so we thought we would have a bit of a celebration for them.”

The residents enjoyed non-alcoholic wine and snacks yesterday afternoon before they joined in on a sing-a-long.

Theresa added: “It’s not often we get to celebrate such an occasion so we wanted to make the most of it and the residents really enjoyed it.”
