A VILLAGE community will come together to celebrate Christmas once again.
Greatham Christmas Market will be held on Sunday, December 11, after months of planning and work behind the scenes by volunteers.
The Green in the centre of the village will be the focus for an afternoon of festive fun with stalls, games and music.
Youngsters will also get the chance to tell Santa their Christmas wishes in his grotto, organised by the Greatham Feast committee.
Mike McKie, chairman of the Christmas market committee, said: “We are expecting more stalls than we had last year.
“All the local charities in the village have been asked if they would like one.
“Hopefully, it will raise quite a lot of funds for them.
“I think this year’s event is going to be fantastic. We just hope everybody comes and supports us.
“There will be arts and crafts, lots of new stalls we didn’t have last year and everybody is welcome.”
Santa’s grotto will be set up in Greatham Community Centre where warming refreshments will be on offer.
The day will also feature face painters, raffles and people are encouraged to come in festive fancy dress for a fun competition.
Proceeds from the event are used to pay for more community events throughout the year.
Last year’s market raised £585 which funded a Royal Wedding party on the village green in April for Prince William and Kate’s nuptuals.
It also paid for a Christmas party at Greatham Primary School and for two Christmas trees in the village.
Mr McKie, a parish councillor who runs a shop in Greatham, added: “We hope to support quite a lot of events in the community and are looking at a possible party for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.”
Stalls at the market will be housed in two marquees on the green, the charge for any groups wanting one is £15.
