HARTLEPOOL residents are being urged to make sure they do not miss out on vital cash help to pay their winter fuel bills.
Around 15,000 residents living in Hartlepool are entitled to the Government’s Winter Fuel Payment, which ranges from £100 to £300 per person depending on their financial circumstances.
Residents born before July 5, 1952, are entitled to the tax-free help, and how much residents receive depends on their circumstances during the week of September 15 to 21 this year.
Most winter fuel payments are made automatically, so those who have received it before will not need to do anything.
It is mainly those who have just reached state pension age who the council is urging to come forward and claim the cash help.
Payments are expected to be made by December and those eligible should receive their money before Christmas.
Kim Johnson, customer and business team leader with the council, said: “As residents have been coming in to the Civic Centre to claim their concessionary bus pass, we have been reminding them that they are also entitled to claim the Winter Fuel Payment.
“It is really important that residents who are eligible claim their entitlement which will help them to pay their fuel bills during the winter months and stay warm.”
Winter fuel payments can be made to both members of a household as well as those living in a care home. People have until March 31, 2015 to apply.
