VOLUNTEERS dug in to help a community group’s efforts to spruce up a train station.

The Friends of Seaton Station Group were joined by staff from Newcastle Building Society in Hartlepool for a morning of hard work.

They prepared an area of land at the station where bulbs will be planted later to bring some welcome flowers in the spring time.

The group was also given extra muscle from Hartlepool Countryside Team during the morning of hard graft.

Peter Gowland, a member of the Friends of Seaton Station said: “Newcastle Building Society asked if they could have some input with the group and we said we would be delighted.

“They said they were keen to support the community and projects like this, which is good as a lot of people use the station.

“We had a really good day turning over this area of land where bulbs will be planted to enhance the station.

“It is great to have a company involved and willing to help.”

The countryside wardens also provided tools, advice and help.

Newcastle Building Society will also provide the bulbs for planting later.
