FAMILY AFFAIR ... John and Angela Snaith of The Chaise guest house in Roker, Sunderland.

IT’S a family affair at a guest house which has become the latest entry in this year’s What’s On Where awards.

The Chaise at Roker Terrace in Sunderland has received a string of nominations from guests who hailed it as “the best guest house I have ever stopped at,” “ten out of ten” and “nowhere else even comes close.”

The manager is John Snaith, 48, and the owner is his wife Angela, 46. Other members of the family including three daughters, an aunt and John’s mum all chip in when needed.

And even though the awards night finale is not until next February, John said: “I feel like we are winners already just by being nominated.

“All we want to do is make our guests feel at home.”

The guest house has been in the family for 28 years. It was run by Melvin and Maureen Corbyn, John’s mother-in-law and father-in law.

John said: “They bought it in 1986. I helped them run it and we took it from there. Then, they took a back seat and my wife stepped in and bought it.”

The Chaise prides itself on being a family-run business. “We try and make people as comfortable as possible,” said John. “We have a good rapport.”

He said it would be “an honour to win but it would be for the Chaise, the people, the guests and the friends and family.”

The awards are held in association with our weekly entertainments guide, Wow 24/7, and aim to reward the elite in everything from restaurants to children’s venues, takeaways to parks and community areas, and hotels to the best shopping experience.

It’s only the second time we have held the awards and we want to build on the success of last year’s great inaugural competition.

That’s where you come in. We want you to nominate your favourites in each of the categories listed on this page. There is plenty of time to put forward your favourites as the deadline for entries is February 5, next year.

We will be revealing the winners on February 26 in a glittering finale at The Best Western Roker Hotel.

We want to find the successors to those fantastic winners and we need your nominations.

So whether you are a clubber, pubber, shopper, theatre-goer, or diner, we want you to get involved.

Send in your entries and put your favourites in the running.

And if there’s more than one cause that you love, put them all in the running and make the judges’ job really hard.

Let’s make it an awards to remember.

It’s really easy to nominate. Either fill in the form in today’s paper or click HERE to make an online nomination.
