FIRE chiefs have hit out at vandals for wasting their time after a spate of grass fires in one night.
Firefighters in Peterlee dealt with four deliberate fires in just over three hours on Thursday.
They were called to Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, at around 5pm, followed by a field off Eden Hill, Peterlee, at 6.20pm.
At 7.40pm crews were called to Briardene Way, Easington and finally the rear of Corbett Street, Easington Colliery, at 8.10pm.
All were deliberate.
A brigade spokesman said: “Dealing with these does tie up our resources while a more serious fire could be occurring elsewhere and we would not be able to attend.”
