POLICE have issued a warning as they probe an internet auction scam.
Cleveland Police are investigating claims by people selling goods on auction websites that they have been fleeced of their property without payment.
Expensive electronics such as iPads and smartphones are among the items said to have been taken.
Police say people have handed over the goods after being sent fraudulent emails confirming payment has been received for them.
Sellers’ homes have then been visited by a young Asian man who has picked the items up before they have realised that the email is a fake and no money has changed hands.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police are advising people not to release any goods until payments have been cleared into the relevant bank account and to be wary of people collecting items from home addresses.”
