Police have urged drivers to take care on the region's roads after the downpour.

Durham Constabulary has issued the advice, drawing up a list of routes which have been affected by the wet weather and surface water.

The rain is expected to continue throughout today, with heavy bursts at times.

Roads listed by the force include Haswell Plough, Durham Lane; the A177 at Houghall on the outskirts of Durham; Seaham's The Graham Way and the B1287, which leads from Ryhope to the town centre along the coast, Thorpe Road in Easington and West Lane, South Hetton.
