THE discovery of a dog on a stretch of coastline sparked a dramatic two-hour search operation for its owner who was feared lost at sea.

The dark grey female Doberman-cross, which is around seven years old and has a skin condition which has caused loss of hair, was found on the beach around 9am on Monday near Mainsforth Terrace.

Police launched an appeal to trace its owner and they later contacted officers.
