HOMEOWNERS will see their waste and recycling collections change from next week.
Alternate weekly collections of rubbish and recycling will begin in the Sedgefield area from Tuesday, May 1.
Residents are being reminded to double check their new waste and recycling collection days using the calendar delivered with their new recycling bin.
Collection times may also have changed so residents are asked to put their bin out by 7am on the allocated collection day.
Durham County Council is introducing alternate weekly collections and altering its collection routes as part of a project that will enable it to save between £9m and £12m over the next five years.
Oliver Sherratt, Durham County Council’s head of direct services, said: “We are encouraging people to check their collection calendar and ensure they put the right bin out on the right day.
“We have worked very hard to manage the transition from the old system to the new but ask residents to be patient during the initial changeover.”
The new bins should be used for recycling paper and card, plastic, food tins and drinks cans, cartons and aerosols.
Glass bottles and jars should be placed in the existing recycling box as normal.
