The restaurant where the two-year-old choked will be closed today, and tributes are being left outside.
Floral tributes have started to appear outside Hartlepool’s Pizza Hut in memory of Jacob Jenkins.
The toddler choked on a grape at the branch on Friday, and stopped breathing for 30 minutes.
He was stabilised by paramedics, and placed into an induced coma. He died yesterday in the arms of his parents, Abigail and David.
Hundreds of people have lit candles, posted messages and said prayers for Jacob and his family over the weekend and last night, just as he passed away, a balloon release took place in Seaton Carew.
A spokesman for Pizza Hut confirmed this morning that the restaurant would remain closed today.
They added: “We are devastated to learn of Jacob’s tragic death.
“Our deepest sympathy is with Jacob’s parents, Abigail and David, and his family and friends. We will be closing our Hartlepool Hut today as a sign of respect.”
Floral tributes have also been left on Seaton Carew seafront where the balloons were let off.
The restaurant also closed following the incident at the weekend.
Since news of Jacob’s death broke, hundreds of people have been paying their respects to the little boy on social media.
