Hartlepool school children warmed the hearts of crowds gathered to see the annual Christmas lights switch on in the town last night,
The children shared the stage with other local talent as they gave a festive performance ahead of the big switch on by The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) star Joey Essex.
Crowds gathered to watch the singers from 4pm onwards with the lights turned on around 6pm by Joey Essex and Hartlepool Council leader Christopher Akers-Belcher.
School children dressed in Santa hats and reindeer horns got the crows going when they sang carol 'Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer' in the minutes ahead of the switch on.
Hundreds of people turned out to the festive event called ‘The Only Way is Christmas’organised by Hartlepool Council.
Joey Essex turned on the festive lights across the town along with council leader Coun Christopher Akers-Belcher.
After pressing the button at 6pm, the star said: “I would like to say you are all looking very REEM tonight,” before he met fans in Hartlepool Art Gallery.
Speaking to the Mail, he said: “It’s nice to be here, I expected there to be a lot of people but not this many! It’s been wicked.”
Coun Akers-Belcher said: “We wanted Joey because he is someone who captures people’s attention. Comments on social media say they can’t believe we managed to secure a star as big as Joey Essex.”
