THREE dance crews from Hartlepool are off to Vegas after raising the money needed to get to a world dance championships.
A massive party of 40 people from town will be flying to the USA for the the World Hip Hop Dance Championships which run from Tuesday, July 31, to Sunday, August 5.
Twenty one dancers and a group of around 19 parents will be there when the trio of talented town crews bid to become world beaters.
Ruff Diamond, Diamond Allstars and Nu Diamond had to raise £7,000 each to costs such as travel and accommodation. They did it by performing at charity events and even members of Ruff Diamond having their legs waxed.
Choreographer Zac Healey said: “We reckon we are just about there and we are definitely going.
“Once we get into July, we will be concentrating on our routines and making sure we are ready to go over there and do well.”
All three crews qualified for the world finals by coming through the dance UK Hip Hop Dance Championships, in Watford, in one of the top two positions.
The Ruff Diamond crew, made up of dancers aged 17 to 21, took second spot in the adult section of the UK championships against 20 other crews.
The Diamond Allstars, a crew of 11 to 14-year-olds, were second in the varsity category while Nu Diamond, a team of nine to 12-year-olds in the junior section, also took silver.
They will all be hoping to emulate Hartlepool’s performance in last year’s competition where Ruff Diamond competed in the varsity section and finished ninth.
Junior crew Lil Diamondz also received plaudits when they reached the grand finals as well.
