Kind-hearted well-wishers from around the world have donated more than £16,000 to support the family of Jacob Jenkins.

The two-year-old from Hartlepool died on Wednesday night, just days after choking on a grape in Pizza Hut.

The story has touched hearts around the world, with thousands offering messages of support and making donations to support Jacob’s family.

Family friend Ben Picken, who set up the Baby Jacob, The Little Angel Go Fund Me page, thanked all who had given so generously.

In a statement on the page, he said: “I, on behalf of the family, would like to thank everyone who has donated and sent lovely messages so far.

“A special thank you to Natalie Cummings for the idea of the gathering with the yellow balloons at Seaton Carew and for Stephen Picton for pushing the idea forward, seeing all the pictures and videos of people gathering with the yellow balloons all over the town can only give the family some comfort in this difficult time.”
