LEISURE centre chiefs are encouraging people to stay fit by taking part in a national swimming campaign.
Peterlee Leisure Centre has joined forces with the national governing body British Swimming and the BBC as part of Big Splash, a campaign to encourage the nation to enjoy the benefits of swimming.
Over the next 10 months Peterlee Leisure centre will be among those offering a number of Big Splash family activities.
Activities include swimming classes, water confidence lessons, style sessions and fun pool based events.
Malcolm Grinstead, contract manager for Leisure Connection, which runs the Peterlee centre, said: “We’re very excited to be involved in this fantastic initiative.
“It will help bring the community together and also encourages all ages, whatever their ability, to enjoy swimming and all the healthy benefits it brings.”
Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington (pictured) is backing the scheme.
She said: “Just getting in the pool a couple of times a week is a really great way of getting active and staying healthy.”
