A MAN who was killed when a bomb exploded in his car has been named locally as David Bagley.
The 58-year-old died when an explosion ripped apart his Nissan Micra as it stood in Hartlepool’s Old Cemetery Road.
The Mail understands Mr Bagley had been dabbling with explosive devices and had intended to take his own life.
But the investigation will continue into whether the bomb was set off deliberately – or if it went off accidentally.
The discovery in the early hours of yesterday sparked chaos across the town, with shops and homes evacuated around Mr Bagley’s home in Navigation Point at the town’s marina.
Residents returned to their homes late last night after police removed a cordon.
It is understood bomb disposal experts combed the apartment – but didn’t find anything that would pose a risk to residents.
