The North East awoke to glorious sunshine this morning as Good Friday got us off to a good start.
With most people enjoying some time off work with their families, hopes are naturally for the sunshine to continue.
Sadly the Met Office is predicting the clouds will thicken later tonight, with strengthening winds.
Saturday is set to be a wet and windy day with southerly gales and heavy rain, mostly over western hills initially but then progressing eastwards during the afternoon.
It will gradually become drier during the evening, says the Met Office, with temperatures reaching 12 °C.
The outlook for Easter Sunday is for scattered showers, occasionally heavy.
Rain is also likely during Easter Monday, perhaps with strong winds. Sunshine and scattered showers are expected on Tuesday, with lighter winds.
