A FUN cookery contest which aims to bring together people of all ages in Hartlepool will take place next week.

Hartlepool’s Best Dish 2012 – which was formerly known as Hartlepool Masterchef – has been organised by Hartlepool Borough Council in partnership with Hartlepool College of Further Education and has been sponsored with £150 by Asda, in Marina Way.

It will take place at the Stockton Street college on Tuesday, October 30, and 10 entries have been received from budding chefs so far.

The rules of the competition are that contestants will have two hours to make one healthy, balanced dish and the recipe must include at least one of the recommended five a day.

All ingredients will be provided up to a maximum cost of £10.

As well as a top prize of £100, there will be second and third prizes of £75 and £50 respectively.

Irene Cross, neighbourhood development officer with the council, said: “We’re so grateful to ASDA for renewing the sponsorship as they also supported last year’s event. The money given to us by the company will be used to purchase the contestants’ ingredients.”

Joanne Tweddle from ASDA added: “This is a great community event which aims to build positive links between people of different ages and we are delighted to be supporting it.”
