ASPIRING stand-up comics are being offered the chance to showcase their talent at a popular comedy club.
Hartlepool jokers have the chance to impress a panel of judges in a bid to win a cash prize at the Catch 22 Comedy Club, which is held at the ARC, in Dovecot Street, Stockton.
Organisers have put £100 up for grabs for anyone who thinks they can wow the crowds at the gig, which will be compared by award-winning comic Jason Cook, on Friday, March 11, at 7.30pm.
Television favourites Michael McIntyre, John Bishop, Jason Manford and Sarah Millican have all played at the ARC in the past.
Up to 12 new acts from across the country will be pitting their wits against a small judging panel of audience members chosen on the night – and two places have been left up for grabs for people in the region brave enough to give it a go.
All of the acts that survive for five minutes – without being “gonged” off stage by the judging panel – have a chance to win £100 if they win the audience vote.
The winner could also get the chance to perform alongside some of the best comics in the country at a future gig.
Peter Vincent, of promoters Ten Feet Tall, said: “All the comics who come and play here are always telling us that Teesside has some of the best audiences they’ve ever seen.
“We agree, and we think there’s bound to be a secret star lurking out there somewhere.
“There’s bound to be stacks of people around who watch shows like Live at the Apollo, Comedy Rocks and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and think ‘I could do that.’
“Well here’s their chance to have a go at one of the best clubs in the country.”
Anyone aged over 16 and feeling confident enough to keep more than 300 people happy for up to five minutes are being urged to apply.
To apply email firstname.lastname@example.org before 5pm on Tuesday, March 8.
Anyone interested is asked to send their name, age, contact details, and the names of three of your favourite comics.
Tickets for the show cost £6.50. For more information call the Box Office on (01642) 525199.
