TICKETS are selling well ahead of a sporting legend’s visit to Hartlepool - and Mail readers have a chance to be in the crowd.
Boxing hero Frank Bruno is heading to Hartlepool next month to tell fans about memories of his glittering career.
Bruno is one of the most popular figures British boxing has ever produced, winning 40 out of his 45 professional fights.
The highlight of his career came in 1995 when he defeated Oliver McCall to be crowned WBC heavyweight champion, and even though he lost the belt six months later to Mike Tyson he has retained legendary status in the sporting world.
Bruno has been lined up to appear at the Corporation Club, in Whitby Street, on Thursday, September 25, by town based form NSG Boxing Promotions.
Nathan Greathead, who runs the firm, is delighted to have secured the services of such a big name for his first-ever Sportsman’s Dinner.
Nathan, 20, who lives in the Brierton area of Hartlepool, said: “It is great to be able to get such a big name to come to Hartlepool.
“We’ve sold about 400 tickets, and there are only about 30 or 40 left.
“Even though it’s a while since Frank Bruno retired he remains such a popular figure and has some great stories to tell.”
Bruno has become a popular figure on the after-dinner circuit after hanging up his gloves.
Hartlepool United goal machine Joe Allon will compere the evening, which will include a hot and cold buffet, as well as entertainment from a comedian before Bruno takes the mic to answer questions from guests.
Nathan added: “I’ve had a lot of help from my family and friends, and I’m also grateful to the sponsors who have backed my events, and I’m really pleased with the way the business is going.”
Tickets for An Evening With Frank Bruno, which will also feature an auction of boxing memorabilia, are priced at £35.
There are also VIP packages available at £600 for tables of 10, as well as sponsorship packages.
Tickets are on sale from the Corporation Club in Whitby Street, or through NSG Boxing Promotions’ page on Facebook.
