A woman has been arrested after a road accident

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a road accident in Hartlepool today.

The accident happened at the junction of Oxford Road and Catcpte Road just after midnight.

The car, in which there were two people, ended up on its side.

Police say the car - a silver Vauxhall Corsa - was in collision with a traffic bollard.

The passenger is understood to have suffered minor injuries.

Two appliances from Hartlepool Fire Station attended the scene after reports that there were people trapped in the vehicle.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “Just after midnight we were called to an accident at the junction of Oxford Road and Catcote Road.

“A car, a silver Vauxhall Corsa, was in collision with a traffic bollard

“The vehicle ended up on its side.”

He added: “A female driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving. Her passenger was treated at the scene by the ambulance service.”

A spokesman for Cleveland Fire Brigade said initial reports that people were trapped in the vehicle were incorrect.
