POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a middle-aged woman was attacked while walking alone.
The 51-year-old woman was walking between Castle Eden and Blackhall when she was pushed over by two youths who then grabbed and smashed her mobile phone.
Detectives say the woman was walking along the footpath when the youths, who are thought to be under 13, approached her.
Detective Sergeant Steve Thubron, of Peterlee CID, said: “The two males pushed her to the floor and then grabbed hold of her mobile phone and smashed it in front of her before making off.
“The males are described as being young, under 13.
“It was very frightening for the lady concerned.
“We are appealing for anybody who may have seen these males or the incident to contact us.”
The woman suffered minor injuries to her hands but did not need medical attention.
It happened at around 12.30pm on Thursday, August 25, on the B1281 road near the Hesleden turn off.
One youth is described as 5ft 3in tall and was wearing a blue long-sleeved hooded top.
The other wore a grey hooded top.
