A WOMAN escaped injury after a caravan was destroyed in a fire.

Three fire crews were called to Crimdon Dene caravan park around 9pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Peterlee Fire Station, which sent two engines along with one from Wheatley Hill, said a woman had been in the caravan shortly before the blaze.

The spokesman added: “There had been a woman in the caravan but she left before the fire got too severe.

“The caravan was totally destroyed.”

He said the blaze is under investigation, though it is not being treated as suspicious.

Crews spent 40 minutes at the scene.
