A WOMAN had to be cut free from a car by firefighters after a crash on the Headland.
Two cars collided with each other at the corner of Durham Street and Northgate at around 7pm on Tuesday.
Firefighters used special equipment to cut the roof off one car and free the woman.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance with suspected spinal injuries.
A man who was travelling in the other car was described by the fire brigade as “walking wounded” and was given first aid at the scene by paramedics.
Both vehicles were said to have suffered extensive front end damage.
Fire engines from Stranton and Headland stations attended along with two from Stockton.
