A PAIR of riders needed hospital treatment after being thrown from their horses on a busy stretch of road.
Police and paramedics were called to the A689 near to Queens Meadow Business Park, in Hartlepool, after a member of public saw the women thrown from the horses and alerted them.
Emergency services were alerted at around 2.30pm yesterday.
The Great North Air Ambulance was also launched but wasn’t required when it arrived at the scene.
A 16-year-old girl was put on a spinal-board and taken to hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old woman also needed hospital treatment after suffering a suspected broken right leg and arm injuries.
The horses ran off in the direction of Newton Bewley but were stopped near Greatham.
A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “Two female riders were thrown from their horses and two ambulances were sent to the scene.
“The horses ran off in the direction of Newton Bewley but were stopped near Greatham.”
