A PUB manager has spoken out to quash rumours that the Hartlepool watering hole is closing.

Chris Farrow, manager of The Woodcutter on Hartlepool’s Rift House estate, is reminding drinkers that they are still open for business.

It is thought the rumours started after Chris gave up the tenancy.

But he has been kept on as manager by the pub’s owners and says it is business as usual as far as customers are concerned.

Chris said rumours of closure have been circulating around the area for the last few weeks.

He said: “Rumours are flying around and it is starting to damage business.

“My wife and I have given up the tenancy for personal reasons but the brewery has kept me on as manager.

“I started to notice a drop in trade and a taxi driver told me he thought we had shut. It is a bit annoying.

“I just want people to know that we are still open and doing everything we have always done in terms of Sunday lunches and everything else.”

The pub regularly holds live music nights. They welcomed the return of Beatles tribute group The Pepper Hearts over the Bank Holiday weekend.
