RAISING thousands of pounds was all in the swing of things for a kind-hearted team of golfers.
Hartlepool and District Hospice’s popular annual golfing competition was held at Wynyard Golf Club earlier this month.
And after counting up all of the sponsorship and cash raised on the day, hospice bosses have revealed the event raised a fantastic £12,000 which will all go directly towards funding patient care.
The event, organised by Rob Hoskins, of RK Consultancy, saw 21 teams of keen golfers and corporate guests taking part on the day.
The competition consisted of a four-ball match on the morning followed by dinner, a charity auction, raffle and a presentation to mark the 10th anniversary of Rob’s involvement in the hospice golf day.
Rob, whose team finished in third place, said: “It has been another fantastic year for us and I am delighted that we have beaten all previous records.
“We will be looking to do this again next year.
“The hospice is a fantastic charity to support and it is a real pleasure for me to be able to lend my support in this way.”
The event was sponsored by Bristol Street Motors, in Peterlee.
The raffle was also match funded by Virgin Money who were able to contribute an additional £500 to the £763 that was raised on the day.
Greg Hildreth, hospice events fundraiser, said: “On behalf of everyone at the hospice I would like to thank Bristol Street Motors, the teams who took part, Wynyard Golf Club, Virgin Money, Nicola Spensley, from Tick Photograph, who volunteered her professional service free of charge and everyone else who helped to generate such a brilliant and successful day.
“I would also like to say a special thank you to Rob Hoskins for all of his fantastic support, not just with this event but over the last decade he has supported the hospice.”
Hospice staff were celebrating raising such a large amount and the team from MKM Building Supplies, based in Burn Road, were also celebrating after winning the title on the day.
The team won a golfing weekend at a destination of their choice, a trophy for each member and their captain, Lee Dees, was presented with the Annual Shield.
The hospice team have already confirmed they will be working with Rob again for next year’s event and although the date is yet to be confirmed, golfers can register their interest now.
