YOUNGSTERS enjoyed an “amazing” first day at their new multi-million pound school.
Jesmond Gardens Primary School, in Hartlepool, officially opened its doors yesterday to the delight of staff, pupils and parents.
The £7m school has replaced the former Jesmond Road Primary School, in Percy Street, which closed in July. Surgo Construction has built the new single-storey school, designed by ADP architects and accommodating 315 pupils.
Jane Loomes, headteacher at the school in Jesmond Gardens, said: “It has been an amazing start to the school year in a fantastic new building. We had 160 parents at the open days at the school and the parents were amazed by the new building.”
The new school, which has teaching spaces that can cater for large and small groups, has been funded by the Government’s Primary Capital Programme (PCP).
It features acoustic curtains to create a range of different-sized teaching areas, plus a bistro-style cafe.
