Another romance

editorial image

Rose was in love,

But she tried to be calm,

As she held onto

Her boyfriend’s arm.

Her mother was dead,

And she was 19,

With bread to bake,

And the house to clean.

But she could not marry

Without consent.

And her father, Joe,

Would not relent.

Till neighbour Jane

Bustled inside,

And made old Joe

Change his mind.

It was Jane who made

The wedding cake.

And all went merry

As any wake.

For Jane could sing,

And Joe could dance.

And that was the start

Of another romance.
