Are we just an irritation?

Like campaign group Save Hartlepool Hospital, I was surprised and bemused by Professor David Colin-Thome’s commandment that Hartlepool “shalt not have an A&E department”.

This, despite the obvious and overwhelming support for it from town residents.

Are we to conclude that what the people want takes second place to the opinion of someone who clearly may never benefit from it anyway?

The recent silence on the issue by our esteemed MP is also disappointing.

As is his apparent lack of visibility at the Labour Party Conference, where he should also be showing support for the leader elected by its members.

Does anyone else get the feeling, as I frequently do, that us “ordinary” folk are just an irritation to be salved by lip service?
