Letter of the week: Drivers are to blame for crashes on the A19 - not the road

The Hartlepool Mail's campaign to improve the A19 is effort in the wrong direction.
Queues on the A19.Queues on the A19.
Queues on the A19.

There is nothing wrong with the A19.

It’s the drivers who use it who create the crashes.

Many drivers travel too fast, too close.

They think they have right of way when joining the A19.

Many drivers have door mirrors set wrongly.

If you can see the side of your car or van in your mirror it’s set wrongly for joining a dual carriageway.

You need to see what is in the lane you are joining before you get to the end of the entry slip road.

Short entry slip roads have been mentioned as a problem.

If you are joining the dual carriageway from a short slip road, wait for a gap.

Regards widening the A19 from Norton to Wolviston, all this would do is create a bottle-neck each end, making a bad situation worse.
