With reference to the picture in the Mail (Memory Lane, July 18) of the flooding in the Burn Valley area, I remember it well.
You can see me (in the background), standing on the step of our house in Colwyn Road.
I recall waking up that morning, March 29, 1979, to find the Blakelock Road area under water.
Luckily our house was not affected.
They’d put sleepers across the Burn Valley and, of course, it flooded.
Despite the flood, I had to laugh when our dog, a Border collie, called Penny, jumped into the water and went for a swim.
They later took up the sleepers, and it was alright after that.
I am 82 years old and have such happy memories of living in and around the Burn Valley area.
