I’VE been catching up on the Mails and I am pleased to note that someone else has seen the need to keep the Heugh to save our town from being flooded by the North Sea.
I was living on the Headland at the time of the 1953 storm and it absolutely smashed the outdoor swimming pool, making it impracticable to repair.
Considering that the North Sea, compared with the Atlantic, is not so wide, the heavy seas seem to gain a lot of momentum when approaching our coast.
This last experience shows that we should take all precautions we can to protect our shores.
Large stone blocks will help but even they will gradually be eroded into smaller and smaller pieces.
