MEMBERS of a youth group organised a table top sale to help raise funds – and now plan to make it a monthly event.
Youngsters who make up the Central Correctors group, based on Hartlepool’s Central Estate raised around £80 at the event.
The sale, which took place at the Phoenix Centre, was well attended and youth group leaders are now hoping more people will set up a table and sell unwanted goods at future events.
Charlene Twidale, 36, set up the group three and a half years ago to help youngsters on the estate stay out of trouble.
The mum of Charmaine, 15, Chantelle, 13, and Colin, 10, who is married to Chris, 36, said: “We wanted to raise some more money for the group to help us buy items for the centre and we thought this was a good idea.
“There used to be regular table top sales in the Phoenix Centre, but they stopped for some reason.
“We are hoping this will tempt people into coming back and setting up a table.”
Charlene said the youngsters who make up the group all worked extremely hard to make the first event a success.
A table-top sale will now be organised for the third Saturday of every month.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy the sale which is the main thing and to raise around £80 for the group is brilliant,” added Charlene.
“We have been holding events to raise money for a group trip, but whatever we raise at the sales will go to the centre and helping us to buy different items.
“The youngsters are already looking forward to the event next month, hopefully that one will be even better.”
